Finished Socks

I finished the denim riverbed socks. They are plain, and the leg is a little short. But they fit well and are long enough.

Finished Socks

I'll post a photo later. They are sooooo fraternal. Even though I wound two balls and started at the same color spot, the stripes in the Opal yarn didn't match up. Which is okay. Except that I ran out of Opal yarn sooner than expected, causing one sock to have a very long navy blue toe. Originally, I was going to have navy heels and toes on both socks. Note to self: do two at once when you don't have a full skein.

Details:

Yarn: Opal sock yarn and Knitpicks Essential
Needles: DPNs size 1

Cast on 60 stitches in cable cast on. Cuff pattern, very firm ribbing. Short row heel in navy, using 30 stitches. Star toe pattern: go to 1.5 inches less than desired foot length. *K8, K2tog* around. Even rows knit plain. Next row *K7, K2tog* around. Repeat sequence until 6 st. remain. Cut yarn and run through the stitches, pull to wrong side.

Mismatch

I ran out of yarn for my Opal socks. I knew I should have knit two at once. The second sock will have half of the foot and all of the toe in navy. At least the colors look good together, and when I'm wearing shoes it won't show!

Blue Knitting

Here are my two current projects. The gansey is going a little slow. And I'm worried about the gauge. I'm going to knit another inch and then try damp blocking it to measure. Then I'll be ready to start the arm gussets. I decided to do the socks top down on dpns, exactly opposite of my previous toe up, two-at-once on two circular needles. I'm using up the last of this Opal colorway. In order to have enough yarn I plan on doing the heels and toes in navy blue. I'll post the details later.

Finished Project and New Project

I finished the Opal Socks. I did a k2xp2 ribbing for the last inch or more and finished with Elizabeth Zimmermann's sewn cast off. They look very nice.

My new project is a gansey from the book Knitting Ganseys by Beth Brown-Reinsel. I'm using Elisabeth Lavold Silky Wool in a light blue color on Size 2 wooden Addi Turbos. I did a k1 x p1 ribbing for 2 1/2 inches and now I'm working on the stockinette stitches for another 3 inches or so. Then I'll get to start the fun stuff.
